Spier
Wines

Spier played a major
role in the country's rich vinous history since its
inception. The first grapes were pressed on the farm in
1712, and we are proud to be the home of one of the Cape's
oldest wine cellar buildings dated 1767.
Spier was a founding member of the Stellenbosch wine route,
and, with our sustainable approach to business, we continue
to play a pioneering role in the industry. We were the first
South African winery to receive certification from the Wine
Industry Ethical Trade Association, and are a member of the
Biodiversity & Wine Initiative.
Our wines, produced under
two brands, Spier and Savanha, each include a set of
ranges offering premium quality at exceptional value for
lovers of fine wine. An impressive list of awards has
been amassed by the brands in recent years.
Spier Private Collection
is our special occasion award-winning wine range. This
range is built on Cellar Master Frans Smit's winemaking
philosophy which respects tradition, yet challenges
convention. This results in truly distinctive wines with
a host of international accolades.
Two of South Africa’s most celebrated varietals,
Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, form the cornerstone of this
range. The “new style” Pinotage is triumphantly
different. Select vineyard blocks from the cooler
climate and ocean breezes of False Bay make this
Pinotage unique, but it is the refined winemaking style
that ultimately captures the essence of the grape.
Spier’s Private Collection Chenin Blanc uses resurrected
old vines (that would traditionally have been uprooted)
to create a sophisticated balance of old-world elegance
and new-world ripeness. |
